DELETING AN ITEM RECORD
Instruction Level
To delete an item record:
Display the item record. Example
Mark the Item Record to be Deleted
For each item record to be deleted (i.e., not relinked):
- Press TAB to place the cursor on the item record STATUS field (not the bibliographic record STATUS field)
- Type the letter "d" (either uppercase or lowercase) over whatever code appears in the item record STATUS field
- Press ENTER with done on the command line
- The system responds with the message ITEM RECORD UPDATED
Update Item Summary Screen
The above step deletes the item record. The item summary screen needs to be corrected, however, after all item records have been deleted.
- Display the copy holdings record. Note that the copy statement still indicates that the item record(s) is linked to the copy.
- Following LTCU on the command line, type summ, space, hyphen, space, and the copy control number (e.g., "summ - 1"), and press ENTER to display the item summary screen
- Do not change anything on the item summary screen; just press ENTER with done on the command line. The system responds with the message RECORD NOT MODIFIED, which is misleading because the item
record count has been updated by this process
- Redisplay the copy holdings record to confirm that the item record has been deleted.
Repeat the above steps for each copy statement from which an item record is being deleted.
