On Seiberg-Witten equations on symplectic 4-manifolds

We discuss Taubes` idea to perturb the monopole equations on symplectic manifolds to compute the Seiberg--Witten invariants in the light of Witten`s symmetry trick in the K"ahler case. The article is thought as an supplement to a series of lectures given in Lindow and Berlin on that subject.
