l Although attached to the 23d Infantry Division, this unit
remained assigned to the 1st Armored Division, and troops who
served with it may wear an armored division patch on the right
shoulder of their uniforms. They and the men of the 2d Squadron
(see next fn.) were the first to achieve this distinction since
World War II.
2 Although attached to the 4th Infantry Division, this unit
remained assigned to the 2d Armored Division, and troops who
served with it may wear the 2d Armored Division patch on the right
shoulder.
3 During the period December 1968 to June 1969, this squadron
was converted to an air cavalry squadron as the 101st Airborne
Division converted to an airmobile division.
4 This troop deployed with the 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne
Division, in July 1965 and rejoined the 2d Squadron, 17th Cavalry,
when the squadron deployed in December 1967.
5 Troop D was inactivated on 12 October 1970, but reactivated

battalion, this unit was mechanized in January 1967.
15 Originally deployed in August 1966 as a dismounted infantry
battalion, this unit was mechanized in March 1967.
16 Deployed in December 1966 as the 5th Battalion, 60th
Infantry, this unit was reassigned and redesignated as the 1st
Battalion, 16th Infantry.
17 This unit was originally deployed in April 1966 as a
dismounted infantry battalion but was mechanized in January 1967.
18 Reassigned to the 1st Infantry Division in September 1968 and
redesignated as the 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry.
19 Originally assigned to and deployed with the 4th Infantry
Division, this unit was under control of II Field Forces, Vietnam,
and then attached to the 25th Infantry Division.
20 Originally assigned to and deployed with the 25th Infantry
Division, this unit was attached to the 4th Infantry Division.
21 This unit was formed in Vietnam using three British-built
Hovercraft. The unit name, never officially approved by the
Department of the Army, was developed from the numerals of the 3d
Brigade, 9th Infantry Division, to which the Hovercraft were
attached.
