Preserving a
Culture:
Native American Writing, Religion,
and Tradition
Kiowa Couples from the ledger of Julian Scott
One of the most important
roles that Native American writers played at this time was to
preserve their culture for generations to come. In an age when the
incorporation of their peoples and their way of life was mandated by
the United States Government and carried out by government
officials, writing about the traditions, religions, and beliefs of
their Native peoples occupied many Native American Writers. Below
numerous different articles are included on subjects ranging from
the ghost dance to the tradition of story telling. These articles
are to some degree the last vestiges of a culture that was all too
soon incorporated.
