Eleanor Cook Editor, ACQNET (2)---------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 20 Jan 1995 14:47:32 +1000 From: Anda Purens (U. of Melbourne) Subject: ALA Midwinter meeting reports in ACQNET Dear Eleanor, As a distant (geographically) subscriber to Acqnet, I read Digest 47 with the proposed discussion topics in the various groups meeting at the ALA Midwinter meeting and all but drooled. Great topics, very timely, very relevant and of great interest! However, for us, attendance is out of the question for obvious reasons. Can Acqnet please promise to provide overviews or summaries of the discussions that will take place at the meeting - for the benefit of us foreigners so that we can also be up to date with the latest trends in acquisitions thinking. Looking forward to this - and thank you for the good work with Acqnet so far. Greetings from Melbourne, Australia, in our all too sunny, hot summertime. Think of us when it gets too chilly in your corner of the globe. Regards, Anda Purens Bibliographic Searching Librarian, Baillieu Library, University of Melbourne [Ed. note: I plea with people who post notices of these meetings to please send back a summary of what went on. I get something from about half of them. People come back exhausted and overwhelmed by what is waiting for them back home and often never get around to it. Knowing that folks like you are waiting eagerly hear about what happened at ALA makes me try even harder!] (3)---------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 17 Jan 1995 12:21:36 -0500 From: Margaret Sylvia (St. Mary's Univ.) Subject: Merging acquisitions and cataloging We are considering merging the acquisitions and cataloging functions in our library into one big department. We think this will help us streamline our efforts. Has anyone had experience with doing this sort and thing and what was your outcome? Does this help get the books out on the shelves faster? What do others think? Is it working?] (4)-------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 01 Feb 1995 12:10:52 -0500 From: Kitty Simmons (La Sierra U.) I would appreciate any comments on the acquisitions module and/or serials module from anyone using these systems. I need all the advice and info. I can get. Please respond directly to me.
