We are a medium-sized research library with a materials budget of $250,000/year. Our bibliographic utility for cataloging and ILL is OCLC. We are using DRA for our local catalog and circulation. Would someone from a comparable library please tell us what system you are using, (integrated or non-integrated) and relate your experience and level of satisfaction with it and with the service provided by the vendor? We would especially like to hear from someone who uses the DRA acquisitions module. Holly Oster Serials Section Indiana State Library 140 N. Subject: Outsourcing versus local productivity I am planning a program for a future ALA and am trying to track down and/or confirm something I heard third hand from this most recent ALA Midwinter in Philadelphia. During the discussion portion of either the Copy Cataloging Discussion Group or the Heads of Cataloging Discussion Group, someone mentioned that they were considering outsourcing some portion of their cataloging operation. However, they installed new technical services workstations which made such a difference in their productivity that they no longer felt the need to consider outsourcing. So, if you were the person who had this experience, if you know who the person or institution was that had this experience, or even if it is similar to your own local situation, could you please contact me directly? Please send responses directly to my e-mail address which follows. What criteria do you use to decide what should be recorded in the negative decision file? Where do you keep the file--online or in paper? What maintenance do you do on this file? What information is included in the file: publisher? date of decision? reasons? Who has access to/is responsible for the file: collection development? acquisitions?
