I am looking forward to this as I have never had the opportunity to attend it before. Peter Stevens will be giving a full report to ACQNET of the Feather River Conference so stay tuned for that. My next trip is not so far away - Durham, NC -- where I will be assisting with the local arrangements for NASIG's 10th Annual Conference, June 1-4. If any ACQNET subscribers plan to attend either of these conferences, please say hello to me if you see me and tell me what you like and don't like about ACQNET! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ACQNET TO FORM TECHNICAL BOARD I am pleased to announce that ACQNET is forming a "Technical Board" to complement the Editorial Board. The Technical Board consists of individuals who will assist the Editor with the day-to-day operation of ACQNET. These individuals are: Cynthia Coulter, Univ. of Northern Iowa Cynthia is assisting with keeping the subscriber list up-to-date Marylou Hale, Univ. of Nevada Marylou also serves on the Editorial Board and is ACQNET's indexer Anna Belle Leiserson, Vanderbilt Univ. Law School Anna Belle is back-up editor for ACQNET and owner of AcqWeb, a World Wide Web site affiliated with ACQNET An announcement about the affiliation with AcqWeb was made in early April. Both Cynthia and Anna Belle are currently in "training" for their roles, and I hope to have them fully participating by the time ACQNET returns June 5. Submissions for ACQNET may be sent during this time but there will be no issues of ACQNET posted after today, until June 5. Sincerely, Eleanor Cook ACQNET Editor (2)---------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 10 May 1995 08:38:22 -0400 From: Martha H. Kellogg (Univ. of Rhode Island) Subject: CD-ROM vendors I appreciated Ann Waligorski's list of recommended video vendors to augment my limited list of suppliers of videos. Now I have a similar request: our library has been requested to order a number of CD-ROM products that are NOT standard serial CD-ROMs that I would order from my regular sources. These are one-shot CD-ROMs, some of which I have been unable to verify from normal sources (OCLC; other library catalogs; print catalogs). Can any Acqnet-ers recommend a reputable vendor for such materials who is able to supply and bill to university libraries? If there are librarians out there who have experience with CD-ROM vendors and are willing to share their knowledge with me, I would be happy to summarize for the list. Naturally I need to order these CD-ROMs as soon as possible, so prompt replies would be most appreciated. Note: The below solutions are each a bit different; if anyone has solutions, please us know] Date: Wed, 10 May 1995 09:33:21 -0400 From: Keith R. Stetson (Fairfield U.) Subject: BIP+ Problem We also had trouble loading the March 1995 disc. Bowker Technical Support faxed us a page explaining how to fix the problem. This same page was later mailed to us as, I assume, a subscriber. To summarize the instructions, the UPDATE program that should be run every month to update the software on your hard disk may not work with the March disc, particularly if you have not updated the software consistently every month. In this case, the INSTALL program must be used to install the new software to your hard disk. The instructions are clear and worked perfectly. I believe this may be related to the fact that a demonstration version of "Books in Print with Book Reviews PLUS for Windows" is included on this disc. We had no problem getting Bowker to reply to our phone call. They called back and walked our staff member through the process to fix it. She had to delete one file (bipcomp.ver), then check to see that the appropriate number of files remained, and then Install again. Seems to work fine now. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Date: Thu, 11 May 1995 15:59:29 -0400 From: Jill D. Yaples (Binghamton Univ.) Subject: BIP+ CD Problem We at Binghamton University Libraries were unable to run our March 1995 BIP+ disc, also. We called the Technical Support number: 1-800-323-3288, and asked how come the disc wouldn't work. The problem was that our CD-ROM drive is hooked up to a XT class PC and the disc won't run on this class anymore. They did send us special discs for March and April 1995 that would run on a XT PC, but they said that they wouldn't do that for May. We need to have our CD-ROM drive with the BIP+ disc hooked up to an AT class PC. I hope this helps. Jill D.
