[According to the ACQNET archives, 3.61.8, 4.62.4, and 4.64.2, Gordon Press is on the CAVEAT EMPTOR list and has the reputation you describe. --Ed.] (2)-------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 02 Aug 1995 10:17:48 -0400 From: Barbara Knotts (St. Louis Public Library) Subject: Conference Proceedings Sought The St. Louis Public Library would like to obtain any available proceedings from a recent conference held under the auspices of the New York Academy of Sciences, Paul Gross, and Norman Levitt entitled "The Flight from Science and Reason." An article on the conference appeared in the July 10, 1995 issue of the Wall Street Journal. Please reply directly to me....Thanks for all your help. I often wonder whether the acquisitions module of an integrated system is of primary importance when it comes time for a library to choose a system. So my question to all of you who work within an integrated system (and I suspect that's most of you) is whether you are happy with it, whether you believe it gives you all the functions and flexibility that an acquisitions system should. Please also indicate whether this is your first system, or if you've worked with others. Thanks to everyone who has the time and inclination to respond to this! ******************************************** Ned Kraft, Smithsonian Institution Libraries, Acquisitions Dept Washington, DC 20560 --- Phone 202-357-1994 FX 202-786-2443 BITNET: LIBEM042@SIVM.SI.EDU (4)--------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 21 Aug 1995 09:27:44 -0400 From: Georgina Murphy (LaSalle Univ.) Subject: Shipping Gift Books Overseas [SEE BELOW! - ed.] I've been asked to post this question by someone who is not a member of this list. Please reply directly to me and I will summarize for the list if there is interest. An individual has a number of books that he would like to donate to a library in Zaire but finds the shipping costs prohibitive. The receiving library also cannot afford such charges. Are there any charitable organizations who regularly assist with such problems? Thank you for any information that you can provide. =================================================================== Georgina M. Rose Kennedy, who began working as Senior Acquisitions Clerk in 1987, completed a two-year program at the Muscular Therapy Institute in Cambridge, MA in July, 1995. She has also been certified by the National Certification in Therapeutic Massage and Body Work. Several employees of the library and the college volunteered as "practice bodies" during her studies. Rose will continue to work in the Acquisitions Department and practice her new skills on her own time. After her graduation, she offered library staff mini- massages one day after work hours. The library director is considering employing her new skills during periods of particular stress, such as at exam times.
