Yaples (Binghamton Univ.) Subject: Technical Services and the Internet **This message is cross-posted to several lists. Please excuse the duplication.** I'm preparing a paper on how the Internet can be made a part of a library's Technical Services work flow and I was hoping some people would share their experiences in this area with me. I would like to know: what Internet resources are utilized by your Technical Services departments, what benefits are there compared to the previous resources used, what are the negative aspects of using these Internet resources, and would you recommend their use (provisionally or otherwise) to other libraries? Internet resources may include anything from documentation to databases available over the Internet. Please send your responses directly to me. I will summarize for the lists. Thank you in advance. This will be available later this year (we hope mid-October). It doesn't answer the question in so many words, but rather provides square footage required for each element of a functional area. E.g., a dumpster that might be found in a receiving area requires 86 sq. feet or just shy of 8 square meters; a sorting table requires 40 square feet or 3.7 sq meters; a weighing/metering counter requires 33 square feet or just over 3 sq. meters; etc. Can you wait for the finished product or are you at a critical point *now*? -- Karen Muller Executive Director, ALCTS/LAMA 50 E.
