Subject: Acquisitions Department staffing question At our library, we are considering reclassifying the paraprofessional position that supervises the Ordering/Receiving unit within the Acquisitions Department. I would be interested in knowing if similar positions in other academic libraries are at the professional or paraprofessional level. The position we are evaluating supervises 6 FTE classified staff in monographic ordering and receiving, serials ordering, gifts & exchange, and approval plans. The position reports to the Head of Acquisitions and requires extensive knowledge of the Innopac system and frequent interaction with subject librarians and vendors. The position handles orders for electronic resources and implements new unit procedures as information technology changes and vendors offer new services. For FY 1999, TTU will spend approximately $4.1 million on materials. At your library, does a librarian directly supervise ordering/receiving staff, or is the position at the paraprofessional level? Please reply directly to Jan Kemp at lijhk@lib.ttu.edu. I will summarize the replies for the list if there is interest. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide. We at the College of Charleston are getting ready to build a new library. We are interested in locating any of you who have experience pro or con with compact shelving. If you would reply to me, I will summarize for the list if there is sufficient interest. Thanks a lot. Subject: Per View E-Journal Article Services _Per View E-Journal Article Services_ To my pleasant surprise, I recently learned that the American Chemical Society and the American Institute of Physics began offering full-text Web individual journal articles for sale over the Web. As noted in a summer issue of _The Seybold Report on Internet Publishing_ "Single articles are available for sale both to subscribers and to the general public, as well as to libraries, universities and other institutional customers." [June 1, 1998, v.2., no.10] I am greatly interested in learning about _other_ such services that offer *Per View / Pay-As-You-Use / Per Drink * access to _e-journal_ articles, preferably for non-subscribers. [I am not interested in FAX (or other) non electronic delivery for this access option] I am most interested in those services that can provide **seamless** integration with existing E-Journal services provided by Aggregators or Abstracting and Indexing Services. As Always, Any and All Contributions, Queries, Questions, Concerns, Critiques, Comments, etc. are most well. Joy!
