From the Executive Summary: "NSF's Cyberinfrastructure Vision for 21st Century Discovery is presented in a set of interrelated chapters that describe the various challenges and opportunities in the complementary areas that make up cyberinfrastructure: computing systems, data, information resources, networking, digitally enabled-sensors, instruments, virtual organiza- tions, and observatories, along with an interoperable suite of software services and tools. This technology is complemented by the interdisciplinary teams of professionals that are responsible for its development, deployment and its use in transformative approaches to scientific and engineering discovery and learning. The vision also includes attention to the educational and workforce initiatives necessary for both the creation and effective use of cyberinfrastructure."

"This report is based on the findings of a daily tracking survey on Americans' use of the Internet. The results in this report are based on data from telephone interviews conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates between February 15 to March 7 2007, among a sample of 2,200 adults, 18 and older. For results based on the total sample, one can say with 95% confidence that the error attributable to sampling and other random effects is plus or minus 2.3 percentage points. For results based Internet users (n=1,492), the margin of sampling error is plus or minus 2.8 percentage points. In addition to sampling error, question wording and practical difficulties in conducting telephone surveys may introduce some error or bias into the findings of opinion polls. "

From the Summary to the report: "Our typology identifies a rich variety of Web 2.0 users and non-users. At one end of the spectrum, the survey identifies the heaviest consumers, most active users, and happiest denizens of the information society. It also locates those who find great satisfaction in the use of ICT even though they have fewer network resources. In the middle range, the typology highlights some users who have invested a lot in services and hardware, but feel uncomfortable with the extra connectivity. And at the other end of the spectrum, it identifies those who get along – many of them just fine – with a relative scarcity of information goods and services. "

"To help the scholarly community better understand and evaluate how open archiving might impact journal subscriptions, the Publishing Research Consortium has released the summary paper 'Self-Archiving and Journal Subscriptions: Co-existence or Competition?'.This paper is a condensed version of the earlier analysis released in November 2006. It looks at librarian purchasing preferences, and concludes that mandating self-archiving within six months or less of publication will undermine the subscription-based peer review journal. "

Model Plan for an Archival Authority Implementing Digital Recordkeeping and Archiving, (ADRI-2007-01-v0.2-Draft). Australasian Digital Recordkeeping Initiative.
"This plan has been developed in response to an ADRI project charter to produce: 'A list of the components, tasks and resources required for an archival authority to develop the capability for digital recordkeeping and archiving (including end to end processes for appraisal, transfer, documentation, preservation and access).' The plan addresses the building of capability to implement both digital recordkeeping standards and guidance across a government sector and to develop and implement a digital archives repository with associated business rules and tools. This exposure draft is issued for public comment until 30 July 2007."

The SERU Approach to E-Resource Subscriptions: Framework for Development and Use of SERU (Draft for Comment), Shared E-Resource Understanding (SERU) Working Group, NISO.
"This document, "The SERU Approach to E-Resource Subscriptions: Framework for Development and Use of SERU," presents a shared set of understandings to which publishers and libraries can point when negotiating the sale of electronic content. The framework offers publishers and libraries a solution to the often-burdensome process of bilateral negotiation of a formal license agreement by allowing the sale of e-resources without licenses if both parties feel their perception of risk has been adequately addressed by current law and developing norms of behavior. The SERU Working Group welcomes comments on its draft document."

The findings are based on three years of responses from a national sample of over 1,000 colleges and universities.
