Stefan Andersson is an Information Specialist at Uppsala University Library, Uppsala University, Sweden. He graduated from Lund University in 1981 with a BA, and received a degree in Librarianship from the Swedish School of Library and Information Science, Borås, in 1984. Since 2000, he has been working at the Electronic Publishing Centre in Uppsala where he works on metadata modelling and formats, interoperability standards, user interface design, and XML technologies.

Jeroen Bekaert received a Masters in Engineering (Architecture and Urbanism)
in 2001 from Ghent Univeristy, Belgium. In October 2002, he obtained a
fellowship as a Research Assistant from the Belgian Science Foundation to
conduct doctoral research. He is doing this research at the Department of
Electronics and Information Systems, Ghent University. In March 2003,
Jeroen joined the Digital Library Research and Prototyping Team at the Los
Alamos National Laboratory, focusing his research on the possible synergy
between Digital Library and MPEG-21 architecture. His research interests
include the current MPEG standardization efforts (MPEG-4, MPEG-7 and
MPEG-21), multimedia processing and delivery, digital library architecture
and interoperability, and digital preservation.

Since 2002, Peter Hansson has been working as a system developer at the Electronic Publishing Centre at Uppsala University Library, Uppssala University, Sweden. He holds a M.Sc. in Computer Science from Chalmers University of Technology. Currently, Peter is working on projects concerning metadata interoperability, long-term archiving and persistent identifiers.

Patrick Hochstenbach earned his Master's in Physics from the University of
Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Afterwards, he went to Belgium to work at the
Central Library of Ghent University. Since 2002, he has been working as a researcher
at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. He was a developer of the SFX linking
server that is currently marketed by Ex Libris, Inc. Patrick Hochstenbach has co-authored
several publications on reference linking and institutional repositories.

Ron Jantz is the Social Sciences Data Librarian at Alexander Library, Rutgers University. He has a Master's degree in mathematics from the University of Michigan and a Master's in Library Science from Rutgers University. In his previous career at AT&T Bell Labs (now part of Lucent Technologies), Ron was both a software developer and manager. At Bell Labs, he participated in the development of the Audix Voice Mail system and the Definity Business Communications System (a digital PBX). As a librarian, Mr. Jantz is applying his technology experience in order to improve access to digital materials. His research interests are in digital libraries and digital preservation, with an emphasis on special formats such as numeric data and digital maps. Ron has been the PI or Co-PI on grants for developing the New Jersey Environmental Digital Library and the Eagleton Poll Archive for public opinion data.

Since 2000, Max Kaiser has been a research associate at the Austrian National Library. Currently his interests focus on the field of digital preservation and authority control. He is an investigator on the LEAF (Linking and Exploring Authority Files) project, which is developing a model architecture for establishing automatic links between authority records harvested from existing name authority files and providing access to them. He graduated from the University of Vienna where he worked as a research associate from 1997-2001.

Uwe Klosa is a systems developer at Uppsala University Library, Uppsala University, Sweden. In 1992, he graduated from WW University, Münster, Germany, with a Master's Degree in physics. After working as an IT-professional for eight years at a hospital in Münster, in 2000 he joined the Electronic Publishing Centre at Uppsala. His main tasks there include development, implementation and administration of databases, development in Java and XML/XSL, and responsibility for the Centre's servers.

Hans-Jörg Lieder graduated from the Free University of Berlin and holds
a Masters degree in German Literature. He has been a research associate
in the Department of Manuscripts of the Berlin State Library since 1995.
From 1998 to 2001, he coordinated the MALVINE project, and he is currently
coordinating the LEAF project.

Kurt Majcen joined Joanneum Research in 1995, after graduating in information technology from Graz University of Technology. As a member of the Cultural Heritage group, he built up valuable experience with European projects in the cultural heritage area (museums, libraries, archives), in particular OPAC Network of Europe (ONE) and Catalogue Interoperability Protocol (CIP). With the Joanneum Research Medical Group, he was the internal project manager of a project (Enabling Services) with the Joint Research Centre (Centre of Earth Observation) in Ispra (Italy) and was the project manager of the European healthcare project NDSNET. Being in charge of the Cultural Heritage & Medical Group, he was team leader in the early phase of the European project MALVINE. After coordinating the renewal activities for the company's web site, he led the LEAF team at Joanneum Research.

Eva Müller, librarian at Uppsala University Library, Uppsala University, Sweden, is responsible for various DL development projects and since 2000, she has been Head, Electronic Publishing Centre. Eva has nearly ten years of experience developing Internet services and electronic publishing within the Uppsala University Library. Formerly, as Head of Information Development Department and with responsibility for Uppsala University Library's digital library program, she was actively involved in electronic publishing projects and the founding of the Electronic Publishing Centre. Eva graduated from Charles University in Prague with a degree in Information Science and Librarianship.

Heribert Vallant studied Telematics (information technology combined with electronic engineering) at the University of Technology in Graz. After graduating in March 1997, he became a software engineer at JOANNEUM RESEARCH. He has developed several search systems, based on international standards, for museums, libraries and archives. He was the local project manager at JOANNEUM RESEARCH for the European projects MOSAIC, MUSoNET, COINET and ONE-2. His special fields of interest include database technologies and XML-related topics like XML schema, XSL, XSLT, XSP, XPath and XQuery.

Herbert Van de Sompel graduated in Mathematics and Computer Science at Ghent
University, and in 2000, obtained a Ph.D. there. For many years, he was Head of
Library Automation at Ghent University. After having left Ghent in 2000, he has
been Visiting Professor in Computer Science at Cornell University, and Director
of e-Strategy and Programmes at the British Library. Currently, he is the team
leader of the Digital Library Research and Prototyping Team at the Research
Library of the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Herbert has played a major role
in creating the Open Archives Protocol for Metadata Harvesting, the OpenURL
Framework for Context-Sensitive Services, and the SFX linking server.
