Imaging Pittsburgh: Creating a Shared Gateway to Digital Image Collections of the Pittsburgh Region, Final Project Report (July 2005) by Edward A. Galloway, Principal Investigator.
"This final report summarizes accomplishments and outcomes of a University of Pittsburgh library/museum collaboration grant funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) in 2002. The report summarizes efforts to create a single online Web gateway for the public to access 7,450 visual images of Pittsburgh from twenty-seven different collections held by three cultural heritage institutions: Carnegie Museum of Art, Library & Archives of the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania at the Heinz History Center, and University of Pittsburgh's Archives Service Center. The University of Pittsburgh's Digital Research Library, who hosts the image collections on its Historic Pittsburgh Image Collections Web site (http://images.library.pitt.edu/pghphotos), created innovative avenues for exploring the images by themes, location, and time period."

Digital Repositories: Helping Universities and Colleges, JISC Briefing Paper, August 2005.
Opening paragraph of the briefing paper: "Repositories are important for universities and colleges in helping to manage and capture intellectual assets as a part of their information strategy. A digital repository can hold a wide range of materials for a variety of purposes and users. It can support research, learning and administrative processes.
