124.4 CLARIFICATION OF 1995 JOURNAL PRICES, Julie Lynch
Press release from The Faxon Company, Westwood MA.
October 7, 1994, Folkestone, U.K. Dawson Holdings PLC announced today that it has acquired The Faxon Company, Inc., a subscription service agency located in Westwood, Massachusetts. Dawson had previously acquired two Faxon subsidiary companies -- the Turner Subscription Agency and Faxon Canada. This acquisition, which has been approved by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) completes Dawson's purchase of Faxon and makes Dawson the second largest library information services organization in the world. "Dawson is pleased to have completed the final phase of the purchase of Faxon, and we are fully committed to protecting our investment in Faxon," said Bryan Ingleby, Group Chief Executive of Dawson Holdings. "The Faxon Company will be a wholly-owned subsidiary and will continue to operate from its Westwood, MA location, under the Faxon name." Ingleby further stated, "All orders and funds for 1995 subscriptions are secure, and clients will receive the same high-quality service as they have in the past. We are eager to build on Faxon's leadership position in the library community and view this as a long-term investment that positions Dawson for solid future growth." Included in the closing funds was the amount needed to retire Faxon's small remaining 1994 publisher obligations, and publishers have agreed to return to normal trading terms with Faxon for the 1995 subscription year. Dawson has also secured a working capital line of credit to allow Faxon to resume normal business operations. Dawson Holdings PLC, established in 1807, is a publicly-traded, worldwide supplier of information services to the library and business communities.124.2 LETTER FROM ELSEVIER ABOUT FAXON
Letter to librarians from James Kels, Chairman, Elsevier Science.
October 17, 1994 I am pleased to announce that Dawson Holdings PLC has informed the Elsevier companies that they have acquired The Faxon Company, Inc., and that they have obtained a commitment for a substantial working capital facility. I am also pleased to advise you that Faxon has satisfied all outstanding obliga- tions to the Elsevier companies for 1994 subscriptions. For these reasons, the Elsevier companies look forward to a continuing business relationship with Faxon, as now owned by Dawson, and I have rein- stated normal trading terms with Faxon. Faxon has provided a valuable service to the library community and to pub- lishers for more than a century. Elsevier has been working with Faxon for many years and we are very pleased that a way has been found to reinforce Faxon's financial stability and to enable libraries and publishers to con- tinue to utilize Faxon's services. The Elsevier companies are appreciative of the patience and support which the library community has shown in this difficult period.124.3 BACKSERV: THE SERIALS BACK ISSUES AND DUPLICATE EXCHANGE LIST

BACKSERV provides a forum for the listing of both available and de- sired serial issues in all subject areas. BACKSERV is not a forum for the discussion of the process of exchanging back issues of serials or of the merits of various dealers or exchange avenues. Messages of this type should be posted instead to SERIALST or ACQNET. Each message sent to BACKSERV should list one or more issues which are either wanted or available. Please do not include both wanted and available titles in the same message. The Subject line of each message should include either the word WANTED or AVAILABLE. Optionally, this may be followed by a general subject area, when applicable, as in the examples below: Subject: WANTED Subject: WANTED - History Subject: AVAILABLE Subject: AVAILABLE - History As a guide, messages should be kept to no more than 100 lines. Please in- clude complete contact information in your message. BACKSERV will not be a moderated list. It is meant purely as a communica- tion vehicle for librarians and library staff offering or seeking back issues of serial titles. You do not need to be subscribed to the list to send messages. Replies to messages should be sent directly to the sender and NOT to the list. Dealers and other exchange organizations are welcome to monitor the list but are asked not to send messages to BACKSERV at this time. Julie Lynch, International Press, IP@math.harvard.edu.
I think your readers would be interested in learning that the production of _Pacific Journal of Mathematics_, and _Journal of Differential Geometry_ has changed from the American Mathematical Society to International Press. Can you please announce the following: Recently, International Press acquired two fairly big projects, the produc- tion of _Pacific Journal of Mathematics_, and _Journal of Differential Geometry_. Many subscription agencies have been calling asking questions about pricing for _Journal of Differential Geometry_. We could not answer questions earlier because we did not have a signed contract. However, we just received the contract and have convinced the publisher, Lehigh Univer- sity, to keep the prices for _Journal of Differential Geometry_ the same. These are: Institution Price $295 Individual Price $68 Optional delivery charges (additional): First class $19 Airmail $54 _Pacific Journal of Mathematics_ (PJM) subscriptions will continue to be handled by the office in Berkeley, California. If anyone has problems or questions with the either _Pacific Journal of Mathematics_, or _Journal of Differential Geometry_, please contact me at (617) 491-0329, or email me at IP@math.harvard.edu.
