Strategic Planning Survey -- Preliminary Report
Thanks to all of the PAM members and friends who replied to the February 1998 Strategic Planning Survey. As of March 26, 1998, the Committee had received 153 completed surveys. What a fabulous response!
The purpose of this article is to provide information about the surveys, not about the -results- of the surveys. (That will come later.)
The Strategic Planning Committee mailed surveys to 214 PAM members. Of that number,
141 returned a completed survey (65.9%)
9 declined to participate (4.2%)
64 have not yet responded (29.9%).
Of the 141 surveys returned by members,
15 were faxed (11%)
95 were sent via the post office (67%)
31 were emailed (22%).
The survey also appeared on PAMnet. We received 12 surveys from friends of PAM: 2 from members of SLA but not of PAM; and 10 from those who are neither SLA nor PAM members. Of these, 11 were emailed and 1 was faxed to us.
When the Strategic Planning Committee compiled the comments and other written responses, we ended up with 50 pages--single-spaced! (Yes, FIFTY.) We're working diligently to organize that information and to coordinate it with the tabular data we have. We will post the survey results on the PAM web site by May 31, 1998. Watch PAMnet for that announcement.
In addition, the Committee will give brief reports at the PAM Business meeting and the PAM-Wide Roundtable during the Annual Conference in Indianapolis. Arrangements for a focus group follow-up are still in progress. Look for more details on PAMnet (or for those not on PAMnet, in the mail).
Many thanks again for your overwhelming response to the Strategic Planning Survey. It is another indication of how important PAM is to so many of us!
