There appear to be several vendors out there who will supply at least the Russian material in something that resembles an approval plan. I would be interested in what vendors you all are actually using and what your level of satisfaction is. You may reply to me personally if you prefer and I will summarize results to share. (2)------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: Marcie Kingsley (Western Michigan University) Subject: Aggressive sales pitches Date: Tue, 3 Aug 1993 08:48:32 -0400 Have other acquisitions departments found themselves ever more harassed by Gale sales representatives? For a couple of years, I have heard regularly from "my" Gale sales rep. This individual sometimes calls to tell me about a special pricing policy change, or a deal on an individual title. Only once have we ordered something as a result of one of her calls. But the real nuisance has been that she also calls regularly to remind me that any orders we place should be directed to her attention; then she asks whether I have her address at Gale. I have gotten more and more brusque with her, have told her I am extremely busy, that I discourage sales calls, and YES, WE DO HAVE HER ADDRESS. However, now we are into Act II: the reference department is receiving calls from another Gale rep., who has asked that the library always send orders to HER attention. Actually, this seems like a good time to start sending any new Gale orders to nobody's attention, and let them sort the mail out down there in Detroit. But I am determined to stop the phone calls. What are others experiencing?
