Also, our experience with their customer service has sometimes been problematical. We tried another vendor which also has a good fill rate, but they add a charge to most titles, sometimes as much as 40%. Can anyone suggest a good vendor for CDs produced in this country? I would appreciate hearing your suggestions, comments, experiences. Thank you. Carolyn Bennett Acquisitions Gen.Libs. Mack (Lehigh University) Subject: RE: Borgo Press In response to the question posed by Sandra Beehler (Old Dominion Univ.), we have acquired several titles published by Borgo Press in the past few years. We normally use vendors rather than going direct, and in these cases, four different vendors have supplied these materials with no particular problems. When I checked the publisher record in our online BIP a few minutes ago, I found no indication that Starmont House is an imprint of Borgo, but Brownstone and others are listed on the record. Could you have the wrong mailing address? If they are troublesome to deal with, I'd fax them a message cancelling the orders, then move the orders to a vendor. Good luck! %% Helen P. It has made our lives immensely easier in that all we had to do was pull up a WorldCat or Books In Print record, add the bibliographer's initials, fund code, price and any notes, and press the enter key. In our case the data are then downloaded into our Innovative Interface's Innopac acquisitions module for our normal tracking and ordering processes. Our librarians have been able to order books while at their workstations, during slow periods at the Reference Desk, while visiting a colleague or faculty member, or when at home or at conference. The service also meant that we were not restricted to any specific vendors holdings, a specific language, or to a specific format. It would be hard to overemphasize how much of a difference this has made in the daily routines of our collection librarians. It has made us immeasurably more efficient and saved all of our staff time, work, and general grief. And no online service could be more inexpensive. Recently we've heard through the grapevine that the long term future of this service is uncertain. Is there any similar service which anyone could recommend as an alternative? Information on OCLC Selection may be found at: http://www.oclc.org/oclc/menu/selection.htm And of course, at the OCLC Booth at Midwinter. --Dennis Dillon Head, Collections and Information Resources The University of Texas at Austin (5)---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 20 Jan 1999 09:22:23 -0500 From: Frances Mar (Seattle Public Library) Subject: Standing Orders on Dynix Acquisitions Please excuse the duplication. I am aware of Livraria Inglesa and Livraria Portugal but lack critical information about each. I'm hoping to find a company that can be e-mailed and faxed and will take VISA. However, any vendor is better than no vendor, which is what I have now. Thanks in advance for sharing your resources with me. Michelle Flinchbaugh Technical Services/Acquisitions Librarian Albin O. Bibbase software have found replacement fund accounting software yet. As you probably already know, there is a Y2K fix for the Bibbase software but the company is no longer supporting or upgrading the software. We're looking for a PC based, relatively inexpensive replacement for Bibbase. So far, we've looked into software by Right On Software, TLC and the Nichols Company. Has anyone else found a satisfactory replacement? Any warnings, recommendations, etc.? Thanks for your input!
