In January, P-A-M's Executive Board approved a recommendation to move PAMnet to SLA's host machine. Before we could act on that decision, SLA announced that a three year partnership with Moody's Investors Service and the West Group for sponsorship of the Association's Board, Committee, Chapter and Division electronic discussion lists had been finalized. One of the arrangements of that sponsorship allowed the attachment of advertising trailers to each piece of electronic mail distributed by any of the discussion lists hosted at SLA.
The attachment of this advertising was unacceptable to the Board. On behalf of the Board and the P-A-M membership, a message was sent to SLA staff outlining our objections. This message was also posted to PAMnet as well as to the SLA Board of Directors discussion list.
At the Seattle SLA Division Cabinet Meeting, a written statement regarding our Division's opposition to the advertising trailers was read. The statement also expressed our concern that there was not input from the members regarding the terms of the sponsorship. By a vote of 18-4, other divisions agreed with our stance. SLA's position is that the sponsorship contract was signed for a three year period and cannot be changed at this time.
The P-A-M Board voted to temporarily suspend the prior decision to move PAMnet to SLA's host machine.
