How does the World Wide Web work? The Web works under the popular client-server model. A Web server is a program running on a computer whose only purpose is to provide or "serve" documents to other computers when asked to. A Web client (also known as a browser) is a program that you can use to request documents from a server. The server puts a minimal amount of workload on the computer, because it does not perform calculations and it only operates on the requested document. |
