Changing the sequence of fields: Example

If the bibliographic record contains:

• 500/1: : |a Includes index.

Typing:

• 500/1::Cover title.;500/2::"SP-1234."

Results in the following:

• 500/1: : |a Cover title.
• 500/2: : |a "SP-1234."
• 500/3: : |a Includes index.

Overtyping Data Within an Existing Field: Example

Existing field:

• 500/1: : |a Includes bibliography.

Can be changed to:

• 500/1: : |a Includes bibliographical references.

by typing over the data in the existing field.

Note, however, that if the correction would result in the field extending beyond the existing line, a different editing method must be selected.

Inserting Data Within an Existing Field: Example

Original field:

• 260: : |a New York : |b Harcourt, Brace, |c 1988, c1987.

Delete " |a " from the field:

• 260: :New York : |b Harcourt, Brace, |c 1988, c1987.

Insert additional information until the line is full:

• 260: :New York : |b Harcourt, Brace, and , |c 1988, c1987.

Press ENTER with SAME in the command line, to force an additional line:

• 260: : |a New York : |b Harcourt, Brace, and , |c 1988,
  c1987.
  

Press INSERT again to place the terminal in insert mode. Continue typing the correction to the field:

• 260: : |a New York : |b Harcourt, Brace, and World, |c1988, c1987.

Adding to the End of an Existing Field: Example

Original field:

• 504/2: : |a Includes bibliographical references.

Typing:

• 504/2:*: and indexes.

Results in the following:

• 504/2: : |a Includes bibliographical references. and indexes.

Note: Add a space before the data, if necessary. Keep in mind that ending punctuation from the original field may have to be removed after the data has been added to the end of the field, as in the example above.

Deleting an Existing Field: Example

• 300/1: : |a 128 p. ; |c 28 cm.
• 599/1: : |a Errata slip inserted. |5 olin,ref/2
• 500/2: : |a Cover title.
• 500/3: : |a Includes bibliographies.

Deleting the 599 field (because the note has been copied to the appropriate MARC holdings statement):

• 300/1: : |a 128 p. ; |c 28 cm.

• 500/2: : |a Cover title.
• 500/3: : |a Includes bibliographies.

Results in the following:

• 300/1: : |a 128 p. ; |c 28 cm.
