Abstract

The objective of the information system "Pets on tour" is to give veterinarians and veterinary students the possibility to inform themselves quickly and without continuous and time consuming literature research about the "prevalence", the "clinical signs", the "diagnosis", the "therapy" and possible "prevention" of typical "traveling diseases" and other important illnesses. The computer program describes the complex subject on 981 screen pages with 44 pictures and 51 additional explanations in a clear and concise language.
The computer program enables veterinarians to provide their clientele with information about the country to which they want to travel and the typical risks there for their accompanying pet. Also they can use the program for optimal care, consultation and binding of the client. The information system gives veterinary students the possibility to study the infectious diseases and the parasitology in dogs and cats. As the program has a close relationship to practice, the student gets a realistic view of all the important aspects connected with the illnesses mentioned. The printable brochures in the information system offer the pet owner the possibility to plan the journey with his pet thoroughly and at ease. The pet owner will be well informed about general topics, furthermore the particulars of entry conditions, the possibly occurring infectious diseases and general information is provided like how to treat a tick bite. The information itself is given in a language, comprehensible to an amateur.

For an efficient use of the computer program a computer with at least a 486 processor,
66 frequencies, 16 megabyte RAM, a graphic card with 256 colours and a CD-ROM Disk drive with four-fold data-access-speed.
