Abstract Beta-receptor blockers are very important for the therapy of hypertension, coronary heart disease and heart failure. Most important is the blockade of the cardiac and renal beta-1 receptors so today it is evident to use beta 1 selective receptor blocker. The new substance Nebivolol could make a vasodilatation by releasing NO. Also Nebivolol can influence the cardiac beta-1 receptors by vasodilatation. A less heavy or totally decreased heart rate would be the result. In 31 patients with hypertension were measured the blood pressure and heart rate over 24h. The intraindividual comparison of the drugs Nebivolol, Metoprolol, Atenolol and Bisoprolol shows that there are no differences in the sequence of uptake of the drugs. Also there were no significant differences between the drugs in the effect of reduction of blood pressure and heart rate.
