D-Lib Welcomes its Sixth Mirror Site

D-Lib Magazine is pleased to begin 2004 by welcoming a new mirror site, BN - the National Library of Portugal. This brings to six the number of worldwide sites mirroring D-Lib Magazine in its entirety. The other five D-Lib mirrors include (in order from earliest to most recent involvement): 1) UKOLN, University of Bath, England; 2) The Australian National University, Australia; 3) State Library of Lower Saxony and the University Library of Goettingen, Germany; 4) Universidad de Belgrano, Argentina; and 5) Academia Sinica, Taiwan.)

Although D-Lib is a US-based magazine, the field of digital library research and development is global in nature. D-Lib content—both articles and other features—comes from contributors who are located throughout the world. This month's issue, for example, features the work of contributors from Finland, Italy, England, Scotland, New Zealand, and India, as well as from the USA. It is our belief that the global reach of D-Lib Magazine, both with regard to its readership and its contributors, is due, in part, to the existence of its mirror sites.

Each of the D-Lib mirror sites has agreed to abide by a set of policies and procedures to ensure that regardless of site, readers who access the magazine view identical content. The processes involved in mirroring the current and archived issues of this monthly electronic magazine are non-trivial, and we are grateful for the efforts and commitment of staff at the six mirror sites to accomplish this work in a way that is virtually transparent to the D-Lib audience.
