    "Recently, the NISO Topic Committees reviewed their current and recent portfolios and discussed potential future activities in an effort to validate or update the [NISO] Framework, and as an opportunity for individual Topic Committee members to understand the work of the other Topic Committees and to potentially offer ideas and other contributions that will enrich the overall future directions for NISO work. This exercise was also intended to identify any cohesive themes that run through the work of each Topic Committee to appropriately and adequately address them in the course of development of each Topic Committee's respective portfolio of standards and recommended practices, and to support any need for Topic Committees to effectively collaborate.   • Access License and Indicators: A Recommended Practice of the National Information Standards Organization, NISO RP-22-2015. Approved: January 5, 2015.

    From the Purpose and Scope section: "This recommended practice defines metadata indicators to be used to indicate free-to-read content and a link to license terms for the use/re-use of that content. Humans and machines will be able to assess the status of the content based on these indicators and in many cases the combination of the free_to_read and license_reference metadata will indicate Open Access content. The indicators include a date component so that content with access and re-use rights that change over time can be adequately understood by both humans and machines using the metadata."

    "Public Libraries in the United States Survey: Fiscal Year 2012 [is] an analysis of the most comprehensive annual data collection of U.S. public library statistics. Ninety-seven percent of public libraries in the 50 states and the District of Columbia contribute data for the survey, which is now in its 26th year. The survey report provides analysis of 13 key indicators of library investments and library use, and profiles for each state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Policymakers and practitioners use the report findings to make informed decisions about library support and management."

    "The library community welcomed the decision of the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in Authors Guild v. HathiTrust, 755 F. 3d 87 (2d Cir. 2014). The decision has implications for libraries that go far beyond the specific facts of the case. This paper offers some preliminary thoughts on what these implications may be."
