Chair's Message

Liz Bryson

HUINA 'IKE [Recognition Corner]

The New Year for PAM is upon us, and we can all proudly look back on a successful 1997-98.

Our most prestigious accomplishments were definitely the writing of a sponsorship brochure and providing all sponsors with blue ribbons at the annual conference which read "PAM Division Sponsor."

Others who deserve praise and thanks for accomplishments include:

1. Your Executive Board, who withstood my daily onslaught of e-mails, campaigned tirelessly on your behalf for division improvements and never let me down no matter how demanding their own work schedules. Special kudos to:

2. Laurel Kristick, our new bulletin editor, who took over the reins this year with aplomb.
*Mary Strife, who had the daunting task of properly distributing the bulletins, the kardex cards and the PAM Directory.

3. Marlene Cummins for her diligence in maintaining the Procedures Manual and serving as liaison for AAS.

4. Dorothy Manderscheid who admirably filled the shoes of our former archivist, Jack Weigel, while at the same time continuing to serve as our bulletin monitor.

5. David Stern, who not only managed to keep the listserv running smoothly but also rose to the challenge of serving as Webmaster and APS liaison.

6. Mary Ann Southern who has served us admirably for many years as Cataloguing Liaison.

7. Nancy Curtis (Chair) and Pat Viele of the Government Relations Committee for improving our understanding of global issues between the division and SLA.

8. Thurston Miller (Chair), Dick Funkhouser and Mary Frances Lembo of the Hospitality Committee who have developed exciting and unique menus for our stay in Indianapolis.

9. Jeanette Regan (Chair), Uta Grothkopf, Nancy Anderson and Brenda Corbin of International Relations for their efforts with savy new ideas that have brought us international recognition.

10. Kristine Fowler (Chair, and my right hand), David Mays, Sylvia Toombs and Michaelyn Haslam of the Membership Committee who exceeded the standards of any committee with their upgrading of the PAM Directory, overseeing of the PAM mentoring program, providing a survey of listserv and nonlistserv members, correcting and collating the monthly membership list, thus enabling a hardcopy distribution of the "Message of the Big Kahuna," writing a letter to SLA regarding membership concerns, and posting information on the Web site on how to join PAM.

11. Bert Tepaske-King (Chair)of the Networking Committee, Ellen Bouton, Greg Youngen and Carol Hutchins who have laid the foundation for enhancing our Web site's capabilties and addressing other technical issues that we will be facing in the not-too-distant future.

12. Jean Poland (Chair), Cynthia Holt and Greg Youngen of the Nominating Committee for providing us with a fine new slate of officers.

13. Joe Kraus (Chair), James Manasco and Nancy Anderson, of the PAM Awards Committee, who successfully established the new PAM Achievement Award, and for their continued dedication in their search for an individual to qualify for the PAM Award.

14. Michael Leach (Chair), Rich Hunt, Me Ling Lo and Evelyn Natividad of Professional Development for distributing our first Professional Development Survey thus laying the ground work for a potential PAM CE course at the annual conference.

15. Barbara Chu (Chair) and Judy Matthews of Public Relations for upgrading and printing our kardex cards and stationery.

16. Karen Croneis (Chair) , Dorothy McGarry, Gary Davidoff and Bob Michaelson of Strategic Planning for their incredible success in developing and distributing our first survey which will enable us to plan and assess our goals for the next millenium.

17. Molly White for her outstanding service as our INSPEC liaison.

And finally, appreciation for the members of our roundtables and updates on whose efforts the excellence of our annual conference depends:

In closing, our success has been due to the support, consistency and quality of our membership. And that's what teamwork is all about! Thank you for the privilege of serving the best division in SLA. Go Team Indy!

Your Kahuna, Liz Bryson
