Introduction

Historic Scotland is an Agency within the Scottish Executive Education Department and is directly responsible to Scottish Ministers for safeguarding the nation's historic environment, and promoting its understanding and enjoyment.

All functions performed by the Agency are carried out on behalf of Scottish Ministers. It is headed by a Chief Executive who is responsible to Scottish Ministers, within the terms of the pdf icon Framework Document, for its management, performance and future development.

Review of Historic Scotland

Historic Scotland recently underwent an independent review of its functions and structure. A copy of the final report is available on the Scottish Executive web site.

Stakeholder Research

Historic Scotland commissioned research to investigate how the agency’s key partners and stakeholders view Scotland’s built heritage and the work that Historic Scotland undertakes to safeguard, conserve and promote the historic environment.
