Owners & Occupiers

Many of Scotland’s listed buildings and ancient monuments are in private ownership. This means that the custodians of our past are people like you.

In Scotland today there are some 47,000 listed buildings, less than 2% of the country’s buildings. Being listed is a mark of quality and looking after your listed building will protect your investment and the nation’s historic environment.

So how can we help you?
Over the following web pages we have highlighted to you the publications, the free advice, the processes and the benefits of owning and living in a listed building or looking after an ancient monument.

We hope that you will find the information comprehensive and helpful. We would also like to hear what else you would find useful.

To contact us please email: hs.listingandconsent@scotland.gsi.gov.uk or call 0131 668 8701 for listed buildings or hs.ancientmonuments@scotland.gsi.gov.uk, 0131 668 8740 for help about scheduled ancient monuments.
